Extra-curricular

Whilst the academic achievement of our students is of key importance, they are also able to access and benefit from a range of extra-curricular experiences that develop all aspects of their character. The enrichment activities offered at Three Rivers Academy enable students to develop their existing interests and try new things, including sports, the arts, outdoor pursuits and many other hobbies and pastimes.

Student can embrace their artistic side though creative writing, school productions, art exhibitions and musical performances. These not only offer the chance to participate in one of their interests, but also to share the fantastic outcomes with the wider community. The annual art exhibition at the Riverside Barn in Walton-On-Thames is very popular with local residents and the annual school musical is always well attended. One to one music tuition is offered for a wide selection of instruments and the performing art department trips to a variety of theatre performances. Competing in “Explosion”, our school dance show, the national “Rock Challenge” and other competitions also allow our students to showcase their talents.

To inspire a lifelong love of sport and physical activity, all year 9 students have the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and we offer the Silver Award as an enrichment opportunity for Key Stage 4 students. Our PE department offer a range of team and individual sports including football, cricket, netball, basketball and boxing and students can participate in a range of levels from inter-house activities to borough, county and national level. This allows all students to become involved regardless of ability. For our most gifted, the chance to join our Academies Aspiration Programme gives them the chance to enrol in a Sports Academy in a range of sports higher up the school.

Budding scientists can put their ideas into practice during STEM club, which allows them to work toward national awards, and enrichment options include the opportunity to study for GCSEs in Classics and Photography.
