In Years 7 and 8 we have teamed up with Design & Technology to include Computing elements in four projects - Monster Puppets, 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design), Superhero Scratch Game and Web Design.
Computer Science is taught in Year 9. After learning the fundamentals with the help of an online package, Codio, students move on to Visual Programming with BBC Microbit and the Microsoft Block Editor.
In Key Stage 4 GCSE Computer Science builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills established in our Key Stage 3 Programme of Study. The course provides a solid basis of understanding whilst engaging students and getting them to think about real world applications.
We are developing a pathway offer for Key Stage 5 which would begin to be studied in September 2018.
ICT & Digital Applications
In keeping with national curriculum changes we no longer study ICT in Key Stage 3; however we have ensured availability of our computer rooms for other subjects to use ICT to support their programmes of study.
In Key Stage 4 there is a Year 11 option group completing the 2012 BTEC First Award in ICT. We are developing new technical pathway offers in Digital Applications for Key Stage 4 and for key Stage 5, both of which would begin to be studied in September 2018.
