DofE Silver Registration

DofE Silver Registration

Dear Parent/ Carer,

I am delighted to inform you that your son/daughter’s application to join the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Project at RES has been successful.

The programme requires the students to develop their skills in four key areas, these are listed below:
•    Skill
•    Physical
•    Community
•    Expedition

For the skill element the students develop proficiency in a skill that interests them, this could be a further challenge in an existing skill. The physical challenge requires them to participate in a sport of their choice and the community challenge means that students will work in their local community to improve the areas around them and support some of the residents who live in the local area. The expedition is perhaps the most well-known element of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and involves participants completing two camping expeditions – a two night preparation camp and then a two night assessed camp.

Students will be expected to attend regular meetings to plan and record their progress. During the summer term these meetings will be used to prepare for the expeditions.

The cost for participation on this course is £85. This covers the participation fee, and the cost of both of the camping trips. If you prefer, in order to assist with financial planning, we can arrange a payment plan to accept smaller amounts at regular intervals. Group kit in terms of tents, first aid kits and cooking equipment will be provided by RES and there will be no additional cost for this. The dates for the expeditions will be set in the Spring term and you will be informed of these as soon as possible. We will also be hosting a parents’ information evening in the Spring term to support you in supporting your son/ daughter through the process of obtaining the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Silver level.

If you would like your son/daughter to participate in this scheme, please complete the form below as appropriate and return it with the participation fee to the Cash Office, next to Student Services at break times daily by Friday 14th October.

In line with our policy, we will be seeking a contribution of this sum for each student who is accepted on the programme. A copy of our charging policy can be found on our website under “Info” – School Policies. There may be limited financial support available for students from families on income support or with restricted means. If you would like your child to participate in the programme but feel unable to finance it, please send in a letter explaining your circumstances. All information received will be dealt with in strict confidence.

If you would like to know more about how the scheme will operate at RES please contact Miss Armstrong via the Student Services Office or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
