Community Tapestry

Communitry Tapestry

Students at RES have spent the last 7 months working extremely hard on part of a community tapestry which is set to travel the country and then finally be exhibited in New Zealand. The tapestry depicts events from WW1 and the Mount Felix Hospital which was set up to nurse soldiers from New Zealand who had been injured during battle. The Hospital itself was based in Walton on Thames so when we heard about the project we were eager to get involved. We have been lucky enough to be supported throughout by our lead stitcher, Katie Crampton who has given up her time to come in to school on a Tuesday afternoon each week; we are truly grateful for all the hours she has spent with us!

Jess Weston, Daniel Lee, Addie Pattas and Emily Blunden all took part and we are so proud of the amazing piece of work that they have produced which will help document this important piece of our towns local history.

All 44 panels, worked on by various groups and individual stitchers from the local community are currently on display at The River House Barn Arts Centre in Walton on Thames. The exhibition is open daily from 10am-4pm until Sunday 14th May. Entrance is free! Please go along and show your support for everyone involved.
