Year 11 welcome letter

Dear Parent/Carer

As we head towards the summer holidays I wanted to write to introduce myself as Year Leader for Year 11 and offer an overview of the Year 11 programme. The Year 11 team and I are looking forward to supporting your son/daughter through this stage in their education and working with you as parents and carers to ensure that our young people make the most of every opportunity available to them.

Year 11 will follow a bespoke programme that has been devised to prepare our students for the next stage in their lives. They will explore learning and revision techniques as well as post 16 choices at Three Rivers Academy and beyond, including careers, apprenticeships and university pathways. They will also benefit from the Futures Friday initiative where members of the alumni visit the school to talk about their careers and the route they took to achieve this, their future career goals and the realities of working life. The autumn programme for Futures Friday will be published in September and will give our students an insight into a wide range of career options. In the Autumn term students will build on the knowledge and skills gained during work experience or work skills week by participating in the BIG Interview. Students will prepare a CV and letter of application and then be interviewed by a volunteer from a local business.

We believe that open and honest communication between home and school is one of the vital components in ensuring the success of your son/daughter. In September we will host a Year 11 information evening, the focus is to offer advice from the subject leaders of Maths, English and Science on how to promote the progress of your son or daughter in their subjects. The event will also explore ways in which home and school can work together to encourage and motivate your son/daughter to thrive during Year 11. You will also receive school reports and we strongly recommend that you attend information and other parents’ evenings in order to discuss subject specific progress with your son/daughter’s teachers.

At Three Rivers Academy we expect our students to be neat and smart at all times. The new uniform policy is available on the school website, however, Year 11 girls can choose to wear the new revere collar shirt with a house coloured chevron under the badge on their blazer or they can continue to wear a plain white shirt with the top button done up and a house coloured or prefect tie. The new PE kit is compulsory for students in Year 7-10 whilst Year 11 students may continue to wear the existing PE kit. Please note that all Year 11 students are expected to wear the new Three Rivers badge to replace the old RES one. If this causes any financial difficulty please do not hesitate to contact us.
Every fortnight you will receive a letter from me detailing key events in the Year 11 calendar, the focus of tutorials and outlining how you can support your child. Subject specific resources will be available on Frog and during the Spring term we will host a revision skills evening for parents.

This time next year it will be your child going to their prom, having completed their exams with a summer ahead full of plans and dreams of what will come next. We want to ensure that Year 11 is a successful year and by working together I hope that we can bring out the best in your child.

Yours sincerely

Mrs K Taylor
Year Leader
